Let me just start off by saying, I’m so glad you’re here. I’ve been praying for you, my reader, asking God how I can meet a need for you here in this place. I’ve been working towards and dreaming about launching this community since November 2016, when I really decided to do this blogging thing. I’ve been overwhelmed with the support my personal friends and family have shown me, and blessed by the community of new faces that are joining together in this journey towards missional living. But some of you may be wondering, Cortney, why are you starting a blog? I’ve had people ask, “so what is this blog thing you’re doing?”. Can I share a little bit of vision with you?
When I was in college (as one of the girls I’m discipling pointed out last week, I started college 10 years ago! What?! How did that happen?), God imparted in me a love for the home and the sacred calling of being a wife and mother. I had this fairytale view of what it would all be like one day, I had read all the books about being a godly woman and godly wife and about women’s ministry and how to serve in a church. I had big dreams of serving the Lord and doing a lot of work for Him.
But then life really happened and it didn’t go as planned and I began learning that being a godly woman and a godly wife and raising godly children is a lot harder than I imagined. I learned that ministry is exhausting, and that sometimes you don’t feel like serving. I also began to learn that living this Christian life is so much more than doing work for God and it is so much bigger than my home or my church. I began seeing how desperately others need to know about Him and how much women long to make a difference in this world and most importantly in their family’s lives. I began feeling the need to write and share and serve.
I decided to start this blog for a few different reasons:
First, I want to chronicle my journey towards missional living. God is doing a work in my life and my family’s life. We don’t know what He is preparing for us in the days ahead, but we are set on living for His glory and following wherever He calls…whether that is down the street or across the globe. I want to share about the shift in my mindset of serving God in the programs of church to caring more about the people of God and those who have yet to meet Him.
Second, I want to encourage and equip women to live intentional and missional lives in light of the Great Commision. It’s my prayer that sharing my experiences of using our home for missional and intentional purposes, going out into our community, and raising our daughter with a global mindset will encourage you to think missionally and intentionally as well. I want you to be challenged to go beyond your comfort zones and to allow God to use you in ways you may have never expected. I want to provide resources for you about how to grow in your relationship with Christ, how to lead others to the feet of God, and how to share your love for Him with others.
Third, I want to help facilitate a community of Christian women dedicated to making much of Jesus and less of ourselves. I want this to be a place where your soul is refreshed and where you feel like others just “get you”. I want you to find encouragement and hope from other women’s successes, struggles, and stories. I want you to connect in our private Missional Homes Community and find new friends from across the country and globe that share a similar vision for our homes and families.
I hope that you find this 3 things each time you visit here.
